[DM-MUG] Back up and clone

I was asked after the meeting tonight what the difference was between 
back up and a clone. I may not have answered well but my 
understanding is that if you just back up you will get only the 
visible files and you will not be able to make the drive bootable. A 
clone uses root authority to copy the invisible as well as the 
visible files. This drive can be "blessed" so that it can be used as 
a boot drive. Several programs (superDuper, Disk Utility, Carbon Copy 
Cloner) can make the drive  bootable after the clone is one.

Does anyone with more expertize wish to elaborate on this?
