Try each of the following, in order. Use the machine long enough to
tell whether behavior has changed before going forward:

Repair permissions
Run a program like Disk Warrior (*not* Norton)
Archive-Install Mac OS X from your original iMac install DVD
Run all possible system updates from the Software Update menu item

This *could* be the infamous iMac G5 logic board issue. Warranty,
AppleCare, or not, Apple will replace the logic board and/or power
supply on qualified machines. If none of the above work for you, call
me at Haddock with your serial number and we'll see if your machine
qualifies.

Of course, you can call me if you have questions about the steps above, too.
