[Cialug] Mediacom to boost speeds

Yup. Right off the grid. I asked one of the techs here in Marshalltown and
he said all of the equipment had batteries, but most were bad. Apparently
they're supposed to be replaced "soon", but "soon" has been around 4 or 5
years so far.

In my case, I have a Verizon MiFi (with unlimited data) for backup.

I think they are powered directly from the grid in the neighborhood.  I
have seen large boxes on poles with a power meter and coax cable lines
attached. I guessing a ups that would fit in that box would cause more
maintenace issues. If you want carrier grade reliability you might need to
pay a carrier for service.
