Odd indeed. That output from 'iptables -L' indicates that there are no
rules in iptables and it should definitely NOT be eating pings.

The next thing to check is our routing tables. Issue the following
command and post the output:

  ip route

Check that route vs. the route from your other systems and make sure they match.
