For those of you forced to use Windows systems sometimes, there's also
a portable version of PuTTY, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc. available at
http://www.portableapps.com
The applications are somewhat optimized for use on flash/read only
media. Firefox defaults to using no cache, for example, to save
read/write cycles on flash drives.
