how much do ya need? if all your getting is a whois listing then it 
shouldn't cost more than $10 for the year. if you want more then 
that(dns, hosting, etc.) you will pay for it. just really don't see how 
a domain name can cost so much. i mean, how much trouble is it for a 
registar to add your domain to the whois and point it to your 
nameservers? once its done there shouldn't be any trouble with it 
(eliminating customer support issues).  i do agree with the registar's 
deal with wanting to delete your domain b/c of bad phone info.  i only 
give address information (no phone, fax, etc.) with my whois listing. 
really helps cut out spam.
