I don't have any tools in mind or anything helpful in that regard, but LDAP is a sub-set of what NDS is, so the principals are the same, just less rules and structure. NDS = x.500ish and LDAP was designed to be a light-weight version of x.500.

Ok, I'm about to finally take the plunge into LDAP-land. I've read
multiple tutorials, but can't find anything that looks sane. I'm looking
for a good tutorial on setting up slapd for a bit of a beginner. I'm
also looking for a GUI admin tool for the directory - something Linux or
web based. I've had directory experience with NDS, but that is nothing
like LDAP.
