Yes, Disk Utility is a fine tool. I've had problems using it from the
boot/install DVD in late Tiger and Leopard, and it has a slight
learning curve, but once you figure out the routine, it's actually
just as easy and useful as CarbonCopyCloner or SD!.
I, too, am befuddled occasionally by the "kruft" that Migration
Assistant brings over. I'd like a LOT more granularity in choices for
this. In addition, it sometimes takes two tries to get it right. It's
a useful tool that I've not seen the like of anywhere else, but it
has its problems and knowing a little UNIX never hurts if permissions
get toasted. Ah, well, job security! I still recommend it.
