Just thought I'd add to the conversation, that as fine a product as
SuperDuper is, you can clone a drive quite nicely using nothing more
than Apple's own Disk Utility. SD may add some bells and whistles I'm
not aware of, but I've always had more than adequate success with DU.
On the subject of upgrade methods, I just went through a Leopard
upgrade on my dual G5. I used the Clone, Erase/Install, Migrate
method. It worked well except for one oddity I noticed because I was
having trouble installing newer drivers for my audio interface:
Migration will bring over more kruft than I thought, since it did
bring over at least the kernel level drivers for the interface, and
while I was poking around I noticed I still had parts of Virex lurking
on my system even though it's been deprecated for years now. To fix my
inability to upgrade I ended up having to manually move some things
out of /Library/Extensions and Startupitems - that was messier than I
thought it should be.
