[DM-MUG] iMac G5 won't mount LaCie 500G external HD

I think I have the answer...AppleStore did all their overnight
diagnostics and other things and couldn't replicate the problem so I
brought everything home [they had even tested the LaCie and it worked
fine there...must be magic vibes]...LaCie would not start up or mount
on the iMacG5 but when I carried it over to another place and used
those cables to connect to G5, it did start up when I first connected
the power...so I thought, maybe it was the powerbrick. So I switched
the powerbricks for the LaCie and connected the 'new' one over at the
iMac and it powered right up [I had switched out the brick part only,
not cable too] then I hooked up the FW and it went onto the desktop.

It is, apparently, the power brick adapter itself [a LaCie brick]
that is bad...the light lights up so you think it's fine but it's not
sending enough power to the LaCie [despite having one of those little
knobbie things on the plug end that I thought let it have more
power...

mystery maybe solved....thank goodness
