You can use the Mini as a FireWire target drive, but the CPU in the
iBook still powers the unit, and the drives are probably about the
same speed in the Mini and the iBook anyway.
Why not get a cheap analog flat panel and use the DVI to VGA adapter
that came with the Mini? Synchronize the documents or contents of
particular folders by using Synchronize! Pro X, or something similar.
A fast external FireWire hard drive from, say OWC, used as the boot
drive of the Mini will noticeably increase the speed of the Mini and
not require you to buy a new Mac. You could even use the flat panel
monitor as a screen for the iBook when not portable.
