I find it amazing how many different pieces of Apple software are
needed to do a slide show with music.
1. Keynote to create the slides. The background themes and templates
are slick, and you can add titles and captions where needed.
2. I wanted to use the "Ken Burns Effect" for some of the slides
(where the projection zooms in or back while showing a slide, giving
the illusion of motion). This is not available in Keynote, so I
exported my Keynote slides (371 in all) to iPhoto. iPhoto does not,
however, incorporate all the transitions used in Keynote, so I had to
decide whether "Ken Burns Effect" was more important to me than some
3-D effects exclusive to Keynote.
3. iPhoto can create a pretty slick slide show, but the music is a
bit lacking. I will have to export my slide show to QuickTime in
order to have the soundtrack just the way I want it (with a slight
overlap of songs). I still need to upgrade to the new "pro" version
of QuickTime, to do this properly.
I find it interesting that iPhoto does some things that Keynote, a
more advanced piece of software, does not do. It's also interesting
that neither handles sound as well as QuickTime Pro.
