I have Photoshop Elements 4 and use that as the external editor with
Aperture. I start with Aperture, import pics into it, do tagging and
meta data noting etc. and some adjustments [it does simplified stuff]
then use PSE4 to do the tweaking if needed. I don't use PSE all that
often these days, but it's good to have. Regular Photoshop may be
overkill for most people, unless you're really into photography as a
profession or avocation.
So, my answer would be - for the same price as Photoshop you can have
Aperture AND PSE4 which should be sufficient.
I've used IViewMediaPro and it's also excellent but it's mainly an
organizational tool. But highly thought of also by professionals.
But since having Aperture and PSE4, I have let me use of IVMP lapse
and that has seemed fine.
