Mastodon is a good replacement for X, but I still keep X around as there
are a lot more vendors over there. After a year, have actually managed to
get my feed fairly sane!

Also use a number of Discord "server", .. the advantage there is one
"server" (@discord.com or a self-hosted lookalike) provides multiple
channels instead of a single thread.

Have not even touched IRC for 25 years, but IIRC it is basically a chat
channel, with variable posting rates, and no separate topics. I remember
logging into freenode <?> and either seeing nothing happening, or message
scroll by so fast it was impossible to follow.

So, Andrew's question is "what do we want"?
