[Cialug] git log user identity instead of root

Donpt suppose anyone has used git to manage system configurations (e.g.
/etc)?

Trying to figure out a way to preserve the actual login identity of the
user adding/comitting files where id=0 is actually required to update/save.

IOW, someone has sudo'd to root, edited a file in /etc, and need to commit
the change with a goal of preserving that configured username on the
commit instead of root.
