[Cialug] "Robust" WiFi router

What is your friend doing to kill it? They shouldn't have to physically
touch it once it's installed.

I've recently installed a couple of mikrotik HAP AC3 routers, they are
really nice for the money ($99 on Amazon), very full featured. Not really
an amatuer consumer friendly interface but very powerful for an IT pro to
use.
