It’s both a security and a technical reason. Having the time jump forward
would be very bad and so NTP assumes that if there’s a big jump forward
then the server is sending it bad data/is compromised. The usual way NTP
adjusts time isn’t by changing the clock - instead, it slows down or speeds
up time itself in order for the clock to catch up with the “real” time.
