I'm curious about this... so you're saying that your company's policy is
that the OS that paints the pixels on your developer's screens is the same
OS that runs your production server workloads? That seems a bit extreme...
I kinda doubt that there are companies that run Windows Server on
developer's desktops because Windows Server is what runs in their
datacenter.
With VMs and containers it's very easy to match development environments to
production and decouple that from whatever OS is running on the developer's
desktop. That way developers can choose Macs or Windows or whatever.
