[Cialug] Generate shadow passwords on Mac?

How can one generate an encrypted password suitable for a Linux shadow file
on a Mac? Mac 10, probably.

I don't have a Mac, but a whole lot of my developer co-workers do, and I'd
like to give them a way to encrypt their password before sharing it with
me. Ideally, I'd like to give them a way that is simple and uses
out-of-the-box tools, or easily installable tools if necessary.
