Given the recent vulnerabilities discovered in Zoom and that it's not open
source, maybe another alternative would be more suited for this? In the
interest of experimentation, if anything?

I've been using Jitsi for the past couple of weeks. It works pretty well.
Wire and Jami are also open source, though I've never tried them.
