Thanks for the help, Nicolai. The problem, in this case, is that I
can't do those things. I not only can't SSH in, I also can't get to
the server's console.

I've been taking them case-by-case and shimming in fixes. On some I
was able to run a startup script that reset permissions. On others I
had to shutdown-detach-disk-attach-to-another-server-fix-detach-retach.
