[Cialug] Debian riddle

Just built a Jessie/64 VM, .. using the netinstall iso:

	debian-8.8.0-amd64-netinst.iso

os-release shows proper info:

RETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="8"
VERSION="8 (jessie)"
ID=debian
HOME_URL="http://www.debian.org/"
SUPPORT_URL="http://www.debian.org/support"
BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.debian.org/"

Yet the installed kernel is 3.16??

# uname -a
Linux OpenMolarV1 3.16.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.43-2 (2017-04-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Therefore VBox Guest Additions will not install. What is missing?
