Much appreciated! Unfortunately it chokes on the device:

lvl at Storm:/usr/share/mplayer (bash)
$ ./midentify.sh /dev/video0

Using mplayer directly DNW either:

$ mplayer /dev/video0
MPlayer -4.8 (C) 2000-2015 MPlayer Team
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote
control.

Playing /dev/video0.
libavformat version 57.25.100 (external)


Exiting... (End of file)
