[Cialug] Excessive login delays

Have a server misbehaving, .. OpenSuSE 13.2, .. upgraded from 11.2. Logins
are really weird - sometimes it will login in 30-45 seconds, .. sometimes
what seems to be minutes, .. sometimes never (locally, it will display the
'Last Login' banner, wait a while, and then back to a login prompt).

Disk space is OK, .. DNS set to 8.8.8.8, .. credentials do work
eventually, sometimes. Any thoughts on other issues?
