Tried the test again, and, upon reboot (it hung this time, had to reboot
twice)), ALL FILESYSTEM CHANGES disappeared again!

It appears that THIS raspbian image may have a problem with ext4 for some
strange reason (the default boot fs for Debian), .. as that's the ONLY way
I can explain file system changes disappearing on reboot. ....

Now, .. if there were a way to turn OFF journeling without rebooting the
system, ..
