[Cialug] installing Ubuntu on a cf card

I've been trying install 16.04 on a compact flash card using a cf to ide
adapter.
I've tried ext3 & ext4 and get to the point were it asks were to put the
boot loader and that's where the install fails, can't install grub to mbr.
The Ubuntu forums have old info about installing to a cf card.They claim
it's treated just like a spinning hdd. I've tried an 8gb & a 64gb cf card.
