I've been using KVM in my own stuff since Debian Squeeze was current,
and the only upgrades I've had break things are within the VMs (Jessie
requires a bit of finagling to actually get a login prompt under `virsh
console`).

On the other hand, I've inherited Xen from a similar era on a system I
manage, and if I try to boot into a newer Xen on DOM0 than what things
were set up under, nothing works.

The latter is probably my own incompetence, but nonetheless endears me
to KVM.
