In this case, I think I figured out a solution:

 * rsync daily.0 to the replication site as './current/'
 * run a 2nd rsnapshot job to version 'current' on the rep site

It's sweet, but no need for file-system replication, .. these are just
home directories, configuration info, and common shares.
