see a series of pulses for each function.
Pretty hard to replace with a button, *BUT* most openers will respond to a
simple switch closure across the wires as that is an option if you can't
use the fancy control module.
It's low voltage, so a simple test would be to disconnect the wires from
the controller on the wall and touch them together. Good chance it will
function, so you just have to provide a relay closure across the wires
from your Pi.
