[Cialug] Speeding up Ubuntu 13.10 on my Dell Latitude

I update my Dell Latitude to 64meg Ubuntu 13.10 and I am sad to say that it is a dog. I don't want to go back to an earliear release but could somebody please suggest some actions I might take to speed it up.
