You should run apcupsd or a similar program against it, it will give you
battery health stats. If you have a UPS with SLA's that are more than 5
years old, they're most likely dead.

Most UPS's only have a simple relay that switches between mains power and
battery backup. if the battery is dead, any power flicker may cause it to
shut off. I've seen cases where a computer plugged into a failing UPS will
shut off when the lights flicker, but one next to it plugged directly into
mains power stays up.
