[Cialug] San Francisco in November

The math is pretty damming for driving. From Des Moines, assuming that
someone were to go along, it's 1800mi one way to San Francisco. Assuming
that the car gets at least 30mpg and the current national average cost of a
gallon of gas, today, is $3.43 we can crunch some numbers. 3600mi round
trip divided by 30mpg = 120gal for the entire trip, divide that by 3/4 and
you get 90gals for the passenger to cover so that is going to cost $308.70
round trip.

Kayak sez... Roundtrip flight from DSM to SFO leaving 10/31 returning 11/3
is $333.

And then there is this, the flights all said are around 15hrs travel time
vs 52hrs in a car.

All that adds up to a big no thanks, I'd fly.

 Oh and if you flew from MSP instead, the cost is a wash, $308 round trip.
