I assume that this is true in any versions greater than 12.04 as well then. Is that correct?

The biggest -- or maybe "most common" -- issue that people upgrading to Ubuntu 12.04 are facing is that Ubuntu has completely dropped support for software 3D rendering in Unity, which means that any system without a supported 3D graphics card can not run Ubuntu 12.04 in graphical mode. You can get a cheap, ancient graphics card that is supported, or you can choose a different GUI. I've been using Xubuntu (XFCE) on my little ARM dev boards when I need to use an Ubuntu install since Unity doesn't properly support OpenGL ES2 as implemented on the dev boards I use. You can also use Lubuntu (LXDE), and I'm pretty sure that KDE can still run using software rendering in Kubuntu.
It could always be a completely different issue, but that is the most-complained-about problem with 12.04.
