Keep us posted. Moving from GRUB 1 to GRUB 2 has been a real pain. There
are tutorials and tip pages out there, but many are for G1, and the ones
for G2 are often obsolete.
Might be worthwhile to publish a tip book on how to properly use G2, if we
can find out how from some definitive source. And, it's not a Ubuntu
problem any more than other distros that have also moved to G2.
