Yep, first thing to try; the file system could not override the RO.

No problems shoing, but the device status wasg "(Syncing)"; had to do a
little research, but figured out that mdadm had to be used to set the
array rw; after mdadm --readwrite <device>, status changed to "reshaping",
and I was able to mount rw.
