Just saw the post but since my son is comming in from Minneapolis won't be there. Have fun!
BTW reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 and my printer works well.  IMHO why can't ubuntu developers update an ap specifically designed for their products, viz, HLIP. 


I am also happy to announce that I have successfully intalled windows xp under Oracle VM. Works slick.
