Short answer: If 12.04 works, then stick with it.
Longer answer: 12.04 is the latest Long Term Support release, and it will
be supported through 2017. Hopefully, you will be replacing your computer
before 2017 (hopefully) so you should be good to stick with 12.04 until
then.
