Is that still the case with modern ext? I remember it used to take that long, but I expected it has caught up with other filesystems by now. But I haven't used ext since the ext2 days, so maybe I'm just making this up.
For reference, last time I did a forced fsck on my largest volume (26 TB) -- formatted with jfs -- it only took maybe 20 minutes. I'm sure it would take longer if there was lots of damage, but if it had taken more than an hour or two of runtime I would have assumed it was broken and was never going to recover.
