[Cialug] "Inventory" tool?

Looks like I have version Version 08.07.23 Which I think was still considered some kind of Beta but it did what I needed .

What is hal in this context?  What kind of machines are you trying to inventory?  (Mine were/are very consistent models with pretty consistent software loads)

Been looking at it, .. but some of the dependencies are broken (e.g. 
hal) - how long has it been since you used it? Is there a new version/fork anywhere?
