Ancient machines. AMD Athlon stuff from years ago. I trip over faster processors these days but It is configured and working so I leave it alone. It is all standard def.
I was wondering about using the HD Homerun with Cable. .. I can tune in the HD channels in a certain range, but they don't seem to be published in the usual guide information. Do you have to transpose the information somehow? I don't have "digital cable". Just extended basic so I can tune the free HD channels but I wrote my own channel guide to do it and then tune them manually. I don't think Windows media center found the "free" HD channels either.

I was going to suggest a Silicondust HDHomerun as well. But I was wondering about the age of the optiplex. The HDHomerun is for HD only. It doesn't work with my mythtv setup because my machines aren't powerful enough . I have used it with OTA and I can confirm it works.
How fast are your machines? I wasn't aware that it required much horsepower to use that. Or is it just the playback of HD content? I was thinking about getting one of these soon.
Regarding video cards, I bought one like this for my standard def tv, it's low profile and it has svideo and dvi out.

Given you want netflix I'd suggest windows 7 home premium (inc. Win media center.) Not knowing your optiplex I'm going to wish you luck on finding a graphics card that will do what you want, but then again I'm used to my work optiplex with half-height cards so I doubt hdmi would be an option in one like mine. For a tuner I HIGHLY recommend an HDHomerun. Works great with my cable. Anyone else tried these with OTA? I think they're ATSC capable. Otherwise for windows I have a pinnacle PCTV HD card that works fine. A warning though, I never got it to work right with a linux system.
