Another good reason to shift the last mile infrastructure to
municipalities who can secure the bonds, maintain the infrastructure
indefinitely, and ensure years of revenues selling access to companies
like Dave's.
Sure do miss the Internet aspect of living in Spencer IA, what a great
job they did of busting the monopolies and bringing more choice (and
speed!).
Ames is not too bad though. I can get 15mbit ADSL2+ (a bonded pair of
7Mbit channels) in areas near downtown with Opencom, and actually get
the full advertised speed for a pretty reasonable price.
