Both are ARMv7 architecture. Evo is HTC, Epic is Samsung. Each company likes
to do their own customizations to the UI and both are notorious for taking a
while to provide over the air updates. I've used the Evo and found it to be
a phenomenal screen and processor. I've not used the Epic but I'd expect it
to be comparable.
I'd say that it really comes down to preference. One benefit of the
keyboard equipped devices is that it gives you more room on the screen when
typing into text boxes since the on-screen keyboards obscure part of the
screen. One benefit of the on-screen keyboard is that you can see it from
any angle and in any lighting conditions and it can be compact (portrait
mode) or wide (landscape mode). Also, the on-screen keyboard devices tend to
be slimmer.
I'd suggest giving yourself an afternoon after lunch hour but before the end
of the business day when you can go to your favorite store and play with
them both side by side without feeling rushed.
