I just shutdown the server and use DD to move the drive data to a VM. It's not pretty, but it works well on OSs that aren't officially supported (like SCO OpenServer).

Has anyone had any luck migrating a physical server to a Vmware virtual
server? If so what tools have you used? I am not running an ESX base ,
so I can not use the current migrate tool.
