Sounds like they are actually sniffing the HTTP return code in the traffic
back to you.  That seems like quite the misuse of power.  What about those
sites that work really hard at providing custom 404 pages that help the user
find the information that they were initially looking for.  All that work
(and possibly revenue) down the toilet.
