[Cialug] can't seem to connect my linux hd with my new windows drive

For some reason, whatever I do, I can't seem to get synchronization via grub with my new VISTA hd and my Ubuntu 9.04 hd. I've checked info on my menu.lst in linux but on get a Grub error 15 when I make my linux hd my boot drive, otherwise it boots right into Windoze. My boot cd seems to work well thank you what could I be doing wrong?
BTW thanks for your response. I did get my Windoze drive installed. 
Your kind assistance would be greatly appreciated.
