I'd agree that Ubuntu (or Kubuntu, same thing but defaults to KDE
instead of Gnome) is much easier to use for newbies than Debian.
I would also suggest trying Mandriva - it has a good reputation for
being easy to use, as well as having a lot of advanced features.
