[Cialug] Network slowness

Check also your /etc/nsswitch.conf.   I got bit by this yesterday where
DNS was slow from the command line but from nslookup they were fast.
Turned out to be "host: files nis dns" and my NIS was down at the
moment.   It was timing out on some yp calls before it got to DNS.   We
don't use NIS for host resolution...

I am going to maintain that it sounds like a DNS issue.

What does your /etc/resolv.conf file have in it (at both locations)? A
listing of the nameservers your windows machine would be helpful as well
for comparison.

Please run the following commands while at home, and provide the
answers, as well:
# time nslookup www.yahoo.com
# time nslookup www.google.com
