That did it!...so basically when a package is corrupted delete it from that status file and reinstall it with apt and it overwrites the corrupt stuff...very neat.

Try solution from post #4. It should work. Don't forget backup your
'/var/lib/dpkg/status'
file. If something goes wrong you can restore your system with that file.
