[Cialug] Shadow not MD5?

Shadow can be SHA, MD5 or Blowfish. (DES might still work, but you
really shouldn't use it even if you can).

I thought that /etc/shadow had the md5 hash of my password. But when
I hash my password it doesn't come out looking like what's in
/etc/shadow.
How does that work?
