Short time reader, first time writer.
I've done a modest amount of antenna construction from published articles.

After a quick overview, this antenna has some good and bad points.
Good
- it looks fairly reproducible
- broadband, not specific to a particular channel

Bad
- This antenna has to stand up as shown, this is not a horizontal Yagi as are nearly all existing tv antennas
- It's big and is going to catch a lot of wind
- the feedpoint is balanced and the "balun" needs to not be junk. read the threads and find out where to buy a good one

General
Your location has A LOT to do with reception, being shadowed behind hills, buildings makes a huge difference at these UHF frequencies.
Be meticulous when building, distances are critical, don't substitute materials like wood for plastic.
Antenna placement: higher is better - MUCH better

May the force be with you. I suspect you'll need it.
<insert some php incantation here as required>

So, Slashdot covers the gray-hoverman antenna, yesterday. I'm thinking
it makes sense to try it out here in Charles City land. Question,
though. What does it pick up? Can I capture a lot of digital channels,
or just a couple? It's supposed to have a range up to 160 km.
Tom
